Acupuncture is an alternative healing method that involves inserting very thin, sterile needles at strategic points in the body. The acupuncture needles can help to heal the body by stimulating the body’s immune response, promoting circulation and wound healing, modulating pain, balancing the Qi/energy systems of the body and releasing muscles that are tight. Acupuncture is based in the ancient theories of Traditional Chinese Medicine which have been practiced with success for thousands of years. Traditional Chinese Medicine works to address the physical, mental and emotional imbalances in the energetic systems of the body. Orthopedic style of acupuncture involves needling into the muscles at motor points or trigger points to help improve movement and decrease pain.
Since acupuncture needles are so small, insertion is generally painless. The needles used in acupuncture are nothing like those you may have experiences when having your blood drawn or getting a shot. In fact, acupuncture needles are 20 times smaller than a hypodermic needle.
In addition to acupuncture needling, we also use a combined approach that includes many adjunctive therapies to help patients get better faster. Some of these techniques include cupping, graston/guasha/scraping, manual therapy, electro-acupuncture, infared heat lamp, nutrition/lifestyle coaching and more.
